What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiologists are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the skills to prescribe and deliver exercise for the treatment and management of chronic diseases, disabilities and complex health conditions.

Exercise Physiologists use exercise to support participants in regaining their function, improving their cardiac and metabolic health, managing pain, fatigue and muscle spasticity, and improving overall functional capacity.

How does this compare to Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapists have a focus on diagnostic testing, hands on technique, and acute, targeted care for individual body segments.

Exercise Physiologists take a holistic approach and focus on specialised exercise targeted towards developing the strength and skills to lead independent and meaningful lives.

Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists often have complimentary therapy goals, with unique treatment pathways.

NDIS allows for both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists to help participants receive well rounded exercise therapy.
